Julie Rousseau to be honored at Staples Center

June 20, 2011 by Pepperdine Graphic

Julie Rousseau, head coach of the Pepperdine women’s basketball team, will be recognized Tuesday, June 21, at the Staples Center, alongside some of the WNBA’s best players. The league is hosting the 15th anniversary game between the New York Liberty and Los Angeles Sparks.

Rousseau initially served as the assistant coach of the Sparks during their 1997 season and was promoted to head coach in December of that same year. She held the position for one year during which she coached WNBA standout and three-time WNBA MVP Lisa Leslie.

Tuesday night is being held to honor and showcase the 1997 Sparks club.

“I’m honored to be a part of this celebration, which I consider to be a great testament to a league that continues to thrive and gives hope to young girls everywhere who aspire to be professional players in the United States,” Rousseau told Pepperdine Sports.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
