Waves fall to 1-1 record after battle with Loyola

September 12, 2010 by Pepperdine Graphic

The Waves continued their season with a game against cross town rival Loyola Marymount Sept. 11 in Malibu.  Despite the home team advantage for the Waves the game proved to be a challenge.

After an impressive display of offensive and defensive maneuvers by both sides it was LMU who managed to score the first goal of the game a little less than half way into the first quarter. That went on to be the only goal of said quarter.

After the first quarter both teams scored two goals per quarter bringing the total to 6 – 7 giving LMU the win. Both sides were pretty evenly matched throughout the game with the Waves trailing by 1 for most of the game due in part to the fact that LMU displayed a slightly more aggressive defense.

The winning goal was made by Tibor Forais in a penalty shot with 1:20 left in regulation not giving much time for Peppperdine to reciprocate.

Sophomore attacker James Perry was close to tying his career-high of four goals from last weekend scoring three goals in the entire game. In the fourth quarter he scored the goal that gave the Waves a 6 – 5 advantage.

Senior goalkeeper Bryce McLain came out strong in the net although not enough to get the Waves a win. He had nine saves and three steals a season-high for him.

Pepperdine won’t have much time to reflect on their loss as they will face off against Concordia (10:30 a.m.) Occidental (12 p.m.) and Pomona-Pitzer (4:30) at the University of La Verne for the Inland Empire Tournament Sept. 12.
