Reasons to Elope – No, Really

April 10, 2008 by Pepperdine Graphic

LAURA JOHNSON

Marriage is a wonderful thing. Many students at Pepperdine know this. As we swiftly approach the end of the year, many of our fellow classmates, in fact, will be tying the knot. Instead of judging them, maybe you should just go ahead and join them and get married, too.

10. If one of you is pregnant. – No matter what, the shot-gun wedding will never go out of style.

9. Get ‘r done, girl. Get ‘r done. – If you know what I’m saying. It’s quick, easy and efficient.

8. It will make your mom so happy.
Proud mom to next door neighbor: “So here’s the photo album of my daughter/son’s wedding. It was so beaitif … oh wait … I forgot, I wasn’t even invited.”

7. Annulments are way easier to get then if married the normal way.

6. Romeo, Juliet and Britney Spears did it, and we know how well they all ended up.

5. It’s the little things, really, like deciding to throw the garter before the cake or after it, or the the always troublesome conundrum of when to cue the swans. Eloping just cuts the crap.

4. If you are in the kind of love where you make everyone around you want to barf, then maybe it’s best to get it over with.

3. Let’s be honest, it’s a much better story than, “Oh, well we were married at blah blah blah church …”

2. It would be a lot more fun to do than that paper due tomorrow.

1. In the words of Michael Bolton, “When a man loves a woman …” – Some people just can’t wait. And that is alright.
