Locks of Love

April 2, 2009 by Pepperdine Graphic

Piles of hair mounted as students felt their locks for the last time. The incentive behind donating ten inches of hair is a non-profit organization called Locks of Love. For underprivileged children who suffer from permanent hair loss the donated hair helps to make a wig so they can feel a bit more “normal.”

Shelby Parsons is one of the forty Pepperdine students who came to offer her hair. She explained that while she was nervous “her hair will grow back and for some people they don’t have that option.”

Pepperdine senior Elizabeth Austin has hosted the event for three years and is passionate about the cause. “The significance of these donors” she explains “is that they give these children their self-esteem back. And self esteem is everything.”
