Dean to deliver final buget cut recommendations next week

Seaver Dean David Baird will release his final recommendations on how to cut from programs next week, although an exact date was not given. He has met with all divisions seeking feedback. After some final input from division chairs, Baird will deliver the proposed cuts to the Seaver Academic Council and the University Academic Council.

“I was educated by all (of the meetings),” Baird said. “Some were very straightforward, some there was more concern than in others.”

All appeals by students or faculty should be directed to the Provost’s office, Baird said.

Baird released the first round of recommendations in September on how to cut approximately $1 million from Seaver College, with degrees in advertising, humanities, international business, P.E. and public relations at risk of deletion or reduction to minors.

In February, it was announced that $1.6 million would be collected from the college by reviewing the efficiency of the programs on campus. Of that money, $1 million will go to the University for a computer system and a retiree health benefits package, and $600,000 is to be reallocated within Seaver, enriching some of the existing programs and creating new ones.
