Show Your School Spirit in Style

October 1, 2014 by Kristin Vartan

Spirited in Style!

A new school year calls for new spirit gear — or maybe digging out that old Pepperdine T-shirt that you’ve stuffed in the back of your closet and have forgotten about.

As a new student, Pepperdine spirit wear has been thrown my way left and right from NSO (and maybe just maybe I bought a couple things when I found out I’d be attending our beloved school). I’m sure all freshmen can agree with me on that point. And all the upperclassmen have way more of a haul than all first-year students combined.

With that being said, orange and blue may be dominating our minds and more specifically, our closets. How we’re going to wear this combination of colors could be frequently called to question. Is there a way to make them versatile and fashionable? I am here to tell you that even at Pepperdine, you can sport your Waves wear like any fashion magazine model!

  • Clothes for a Cause: Malibu’s Pop-Up Night of Fashion

Look One: The So Cal Hipster
This outfit is for the girl that sips lattes while reading The Oddyssey for her Great Books Seminar! She can be found flaunting her Pepperdine crewneck at a local coffee shop, but she likes to put her own spin on it. A crisp button down is worn under it with some good old cuffed jeggings. To top it all off, you’ll find this student wearing her brown leather oxfords. Fashion and function in one pair of shoes? Yes Please!

Look Two: Malibu Miss
For the girly girl, a Pepperdine tee tucked under a high waisted jean skirt is a must! The circle skirt gives the baggy top shape, accentuating the hips. Just add some classy bangles and bejeweled sandals and you’re good to go! Next stop: Malibu Yo!

Look Three: Ayo Waves!
This outfit can be found on an avid sports fan. She may be just a fan, but all eyes will be on her … as well as her rad ensemble! It’s amazing what adding a head scarf and studded denim vest can do to a tank and shorts!

Look Four: Bu-Basic
Casual, yet still cute! Any Pepperdine tee paired with jeans and a flannel at the waist can make a simple fashion statement. Easily wearable, this outfit can be worn to the HAWC or a campus recreation retreat. God in the Wilderness has never featured so much style!

School spirit and style can now be one and the same! I hope to see a whole bunch of Waves gear around campus from now on.

Keeping it Krischic,
Kristin
