VIDEO: Pedestrian killed after impact on PCH

March 15, 2010 by Pepperdine Graphic

Update 12:25 p.m.: Both lanes are open to traffic again several hours earlier than originally expected.

The woman hit by the car who died at the scene was 74 years old according to Rauch Fleich an operator with the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff’s station.

A vehicle fatally hit a pedestrian on Pacific Coast Highway near Winding Way authorities said.

Sgt. Ken Crocker of the Sheriff’s Malibu/Lost Hills station said the pedestrian identified only as a woman was struck around 6:25 a.m. Monday and she died at the scene.

Deputy John Young at the scene of the accident said both lanes of PCH will be closed between Dume Road and Malibu Canyon Road until 2:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

The motorist who hit the woman stopped and remained at the scene.

Lt. Scott Chew of the Malibu Station originally identified the victim as an Asian woman in her 50s but sheriffs now say they are unable to confirm her identity beyond that she is female.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was struck by a vehicle thrown onto the other side of the roadway and then struck by several other cars some of which kept going Chew said.
