Pepperdine students partied outside the Firestone Fieldhouse Friday night at the Wave’s Tailgate Party before the start of the men’s basketball opener against Westmont.
The Board treated students to free food drinks and entertainment to celebrate the start of the season and bring students out to show their support.
“Were glad to see so many people come out.” said senior Dustin Glentzer a programming board member. “Who doesn’t love root beer and burgers?”
The line of students wraped around the corner and volunteers could not cook fast enough to feed everyone in time. The free food lured some students who might have not come otherwise.
“It’s a way to bring together students in order to celebrate said freshman Nikki Torriente. I’m just here for the free food.” Torriente came for the food but she stayed to watch the Waves in action.

So many students appeared that the line warped around the corner. Volunteers could not cook fast enough to feed everyone in time.
“It’s a good problem to have.” said Casey Gillam staff advisor. ” I would rather not enough food than to have an excess of food left over.”

The tailgate party was successful. It brought new and old fans together to bring their energy up as they watch their team in action.
