Fifteen Reasons to Wear Workout Clothes on a Daily Basis

January 16, 2013 by Lauren Herr

When I first came to Pepperdine as a freshman, girls wouldn’t be caught dead in workout clothes and a messy bun/ponytail unless they were—you guessed it—headed to the gym. But nowadays (to my delight) with the rising popularity of upscale workout clothing brands like Lululemon, it has become a trend to wear workout clothes out in public when previously deemed inappropriate.

Class. Meeting. Cross Creek. Whatever. Workout clothes = acceptable. As a senior this year with 18 units, 3 jobs, an internship and heavy involvement in extracurricular activities, my “beauty time” is limited and this new acceptance of wearing workout clothes thrills me. In honor of this awesome new trend, here are 15 (semi-joking, semi-serious) reasons to wear workout clothes on a daily basis.

  1. Your alarm clock didn’t go off/you are running late.
  2. You are just plain lazy.
  3. Workout clothes are freakin’ comfy.
  4. You hope wearing workout clothes will inspire/motivate you to go work out later.
  5. You know wearing workout clothes will guilt you into working out later.
  6. Your butt looks extra good in your spandex pants or leggings.
  7. You are planning to do manual labor.
  8. It gives you the excuse to brag to everyone else about how you just worked out.
  9. You have to walk up the Drescher hill or climb the CCB stairs.
  10. You feel extra skinny today and workout clothes have a tendency to cling to your body in just the right way.
  11. You feel extra chubby today and you’re hoping those spandex leggings will help suck your gut in.
  12. People will assume you are sweaty from a workout so no one random will sit by you on the shuttle.
  13. You don’t have to change into pajamas before you go to bed.
  14. It’s not a big deal if you spill something on yourself.
  15. You don’t have to spend 20 minutes every morning picking out what to wear.

So there you go. If anyone gives you a hard time for wearing workout clothes in public, you now have 15 premium excuses to use at your convenience. You’re welcome.
