A Recap of the Standout Fall Sports Season

December 7, 2012 by Jen Karson

The Pepperdine Waves women’s soccer and volleyball teams have made a name for themselves in their achievements this fall, both gaining admittance into the NCAA tournament. Unfortunately, both teams fell in the first round, eliminating them from the prestigious tournament and ending their seasons prematurely.

The Waves soccer program ended their stellar run posting a 14-7 record while hosting the NCAA first round of playoffs for the second consecutive year. In addition, the Waves achieved a national top-25 ranking in every poll throughout the 2012 season which explains why four Waves standouts were selected to the NCAA Division I All West Region Team. The Waves will lose six senior leaders who have been apart of the program since the very beginning. With the bar set high for the Waves’ soccer program, much is expected next year in a run to the National title.

The Waves volleyball team had a similar fate as their dreams quickly crumbled after holding a two set advantage over Dayton in the first round of playoffs. Pepperdine’s projected victory was overturned as Dayton fought back to eventually win the next three sets, ultimately winning the match and sending Pepperdine packing.

The Waves have every right to hold their heads up, despite the disappointing loss. The renowned volleyball program finished their season with a 20-12 record, making this NCAA appearance their 22nd in program history. The lone senior, Victoria Adelhelm, played a significant role in the Waves’ success and will be missed as her time on the indoor court has expired. She leaves the program stunning the record charts with her career block tally of 455, which seats her comfortably at No. 2 on the Waves all-time list.

The standard has been set high for the winter and spring sports as both the Waves’ soccer and volleyball programs led the fall with outstanding seasons that will never be forgotten.
