Pepperdine Provost Darryl Tippens announced today that Dean Rick Marrs will step down from his position at the end of this academic year, according to an e-mail announcement from Pepperdine administration. Marrs began his work as dean in 2008 and will have completed his five-year term in May of 2013.
Marrs first joined Seaver College in 1987 as an associate professor of religion. He became the Associate Dean of Seaver in 2003 and he is planning to go on sabbatical in the 2013-14 academic year before resuming a full-time teaching position as a religion professor in the fall of 2014.
“In September, Dean Marrs informed me of his decision not to stand for reappointment to his position,” Provost Tippens said in the announcement. “During his service as dean, the reputation of the college has fared well with a growing, positive national profile. He’s carried a heavy load with admirable grace. He is truly one of the most diligent administrators with whom I have ever worked,” he added.
The next dean of Seaver College is expected to be named in the spring or summer of 2013.
