The No. 18 Waves suffered their third loss of this season as they were defeated by No. 3 UCLA, 4-0, in the final match of the UCLA Soccer Classic. Despite the close score after the first half, the Bruins managed to score three goals in the second half on Saturday.
The Waves started off with an energetic break through the opponent’s defence and finished the first half with five scoring attempts.
Overall, UCLA finished with only one scoring attempt more than the Waves. Sophomore Lynn William distinguished her performance by making six shots and netting one of the on the frame.
After the intense struggle for the scoring opportunities in the second half, the Waves missed three goals as the Bruins have triumphed in the competition.
“That’s a very, very good team,” Head Coach Tim Ward said about UCLA in a press release.
“When you look at the subs they’re bringing in, those were some of the top recruits in the nation, and they’re coming off the bench.”
UCLA advanced on strong performances by two sophomores, Sarah Killion and Sam Mewis, who just came back from the U-20 World Cup Final.
Even though it is the third time the No. 18 Waves have tasted defeat this season, they are ready to learn from mistakes.
No. 18 Pepperdine stepped into the new season with the row of marvelous wins however, the challenging opponents of the ASU Sun Devil Desert Classic Tournament added the second loss to the team’s performance.
Pepperdine faces University of California Santa Barbara tomorrow plays against Boston College on Sept. 29.
