Update: Sepulveda Pass fire reaches 40 percent containment

September 14, 2012 by Genevieve Chong & Al Lai

UPDATED: Sept. 15 at 9:28 a.m.

More than 70 acres were burned in what is believed to be a brush fire that started around 4:00 pm on Sept. 14, on the east side of the 405 freeway near Getty Center Drive, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The fire brought the 405 freeway to a standstill Friday afternoon and called for a voluntary evacuation of the Getty Center.

It was reported that the approximately 75 fire fighters battling the blaze had the fire 40% contained before suspending their efforts for the night. Fire crews resumed at first light Saturday morning and expect to have the blaze out by Sunday.

Fire risk is currently very high because of low humidity levels and high temperatures.

More information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
