Hertz connects the carless

April 14, 2010 by Pepperdine Graphic

Stuck on campus Friday night Caf closed and nothing to do? Have no fear Connect by Hertz is here. Already servicing nearly two dozen college campuses across six countries Hertz has recently expanded its operation to Pepperdine.

I recently tested out the rent-a-car system and this is what I found.

Connect by Hertz has designed a highly beneficial user-friendly experience with its car sharing program. All I had to do was sign up online to become a registered member and within a week had a shiny new card in my hands. With that card I now had the power to book any of the available vehicles well-situated in Rho parking lot and use them at my convenience.

Connect by Hertz is an extremely accessible plan B for all those last-minute changes in plans. A swipe of the card on the windshield and within minutes I was piloting a brand new Toyota Camry down John Tyler Drive.

All this luxury and convenience comes at a price however. Usually the lowest Connect by Hertz membership level will cost 50 dollars for an annual membership and an additional 25 dollars acting as an application fee. After the initial sticker shock of the program costs begin to seem more reasonable. At a cost of eight dollars per hour you and three of your closest friends can pile into the back of a Ford Escape and enjoy an impromptu day at the beach. Your hourly rate includes more than just the car though. You’ll also get 24/7 roadside assistance in-car customer care insurance and NeverLost GPS. Additionally if you book a car for more than eight hours during a 24-hour period you’ll only pay for eight hours. Sounds like a great deal to me. And if that wasn’t convincing enough that Connect by Hertz is worth a try here’s this little added bonus— they cover the cost of gasoline.

So whether you and your buddies need an emergency ride down to Santa Monica to catch the premiere of a new movie or you just have to run a few errands between classes Connect by Hertz is a great solution. For all you students who are running around Pepperdine carless you now have an option. Pricey yes but Connect by Hertz is easy to use accessible and at least warrants a try. Once you experience its functionality and versatility you’ll never be stuck on campus again.
