Santa Clara keeps pace with the Waves
The Santa Clara University women’s basketball team remains just one game behind the first place Waves in conference play after solidly
defeating San Francisco 57-41 in its home gym. The Broncos’ Kendra Rhea lead all scorers with 13 points, as Santa Clara improved to 13-5 overall and 4-1 in league play.
Rhea led the Broncos defensively as well, holding USF’s leading scorer, Carey Sauer, to two-for-15 shooting on the night. Although Sauer led the Dons with 10 points and 11 rebounds, she only hit two field goals.
This weekend Santa Clara takes on Portland at home and Gonzaga on the road.
Stepp and Zags still atop the WCC
Gonzaga remains atop the WCC at 5-0 as starting point guard Blake Stepp continues to shoot the lights out of WCC gyms.
Stepp was named the WCC Player of the Week for the second time this season after leading the Zags over rival Portland. Stepp put on a shooting clinic in the first half, scoring 22 of his game-high 31 points and hitting six-of-8 from beyond the three-point line.
The Bulldogs have won six straight and are the only undefeated team in league play.
