Women’s soccer grabs awards

The Pepperdine women’s soccer team bolted into the post-season with its first     West Coast Conference Championship.

In the process, several of the women received recognition for their play during the regular season.

Sophomore defender Ashley Swanson and senior defender Susan Palmer were named to the All-West Coast Conference first team.

Swanson was a second-team pick last year as a freshman while Palmer is a first-team choice for the second year in a row.

Sophomore forward Ali Pavoni and junior forward Lacey Ubaldi were named second team All-WCC selections.

Freshmen forwards Jenna Fodor and Megan Woods, along with freshman goalkeeper Anna Picarelli, were honorable mention selections.

Pepperdine women’s soccer Head Coach Tim Ward was named the league’s “Coach of the Year.” In guiding the Waves to the WCC crown, he directed the team to defeats of Portland and Santa Clara, a feat that no other team had accomplished before this season.

The Waves finished the season with their highest national ranking ever at No. 5.

All of the awards were voted on by the women’s soccer coaches in the WCC.
