Men’s volleyball goes international

Pepperdine’s men’s volleyball team joined Brigham Young, UC Los Angeles and UC Santa Barbara in representing the United States at last weekend’s Husky Energy Can-Am Challenge hosted by the University of Alberta in Calgary.

Junior outside hitter Fred Winters helped lead Pepperdine to victories in three of four matches at the two-day, round-robin tournament.

Winters, with teammates senior middle blocker Brad Keenan and sophomore outside hitter Sean Rooney were named to the NCAA All-Star team. Winters ended the weekend with NCAA Most Valuable Player honors.

Waves’ basketball to host clinic

The Waves’ basketball program has joined forces with the Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association to hold a coaches clinic on Oct. 26 in  Firestone Fieldhouse.

The clinic will cost $15 for SCIBCA members and $25 for non-SCIBCA members.

Attendees will receive lunch, a NIKE clipboard and a free pass to a Pepperdine women’s and men’s home basketball game.

The clinic will feature notables such as Wave’s Head Men’s Basketball Coach Paul Westphal. Also speaking will be Pepperdine assistant coaches Jim Nielsen, Wyking Jones and Gib Arnold, Pepperdine Women’s Head Basketball Coach Mark Trakh and Head Boys Basketball Coach at Cathedral City High School, Rob Hanmer.

Pepperdine’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will hold team practices during the clinic.
