While Pepperdine students remain safe and encouraged not to leave campus, the Malibu Canyon Fire is estimated to be 15 percent contained and has affected 4,400 acres.
According to Public Safety, students who can make it to campus are being allowed to return, but “it’s their decision because they’re just chancing it with the roads right now.”
Malibu Canyon Road continues to be closed, and the Los Angeles County Fire Department encourages the community to keep off the roads to avoid interfering with the ongoing work of firefighters.
University Chaplain David Lemley held a service in Stauffer Chapel earlier today to gather in prayer for those affected by the fire and for those needing healing and release.
As soon as information from local and state authorities becomes available, Pepperdine will make a decision on whether classes will be held Wednesday.
