SGA passes resolutions, ends term

November 15, 2007 by Pepperdine Graphic

SGA passed seven resolutions in its final meeting of the semester Wednesday night, including one to work toward adding a convenience store in the HAWC and four more that allot nearly $5,000 to finance various upcoming campus events.

The Senate also passed resolutions to try to improve deteriorating speed bumps on campus and to work on implementing a shuttle service for disabled students.

The other four resolutions allocated almost $5,000 worth of SGA funds to finance different philanthropic and awareness events on campus. The Psychology Club and Psi Chi psychology honors society requested funds to host a burrito sale after Chapel on Nov. 28, the proceeds from which will go to the Violence Intervention Program, which helps women and children who are victims of violence. Funds also went to SGA’s own upcoming Iraq War Week and the Operation Christmas Child program, which sends presents to underprivileged children and orphans around the world.

Because Wednesday night marked the final last chance this semester for Senate members to present a resolution, the influx of proposals was not a surprise to any of the executive board members.

“It was kind of expected,” Executive Vice President Clint Harp said. “The first semester is a little slower in terms of getting resolutions started. The second semester flows much faster and we see more resolutions.”

Six of the seven resolutions were passed unanimously, and the seventh still passed with a hefty majority vote.
