Last Sunday we attended “An Afternoon of Elegance,” where the designs of celebrity stylists Jon Gheri, Bynoskia Sams, and Johnae Elease were presented. Models rocked the runway with 1940’s /1950’s inspired looks (video coming soon) with hairstyles to match. Check out our top four hairstyles of the night and how you can make them work for you!
1. Romantic Updo
Curl hair in one-and-a-half inch sections and let cool. Brush curls lightly and pull hair into a loose bun at the nape of your neck. Then, turn the bun under your hair so that it is out of sight and secure with bobby pins.
2. Inverted Pony
Blow dry and straighten hair and make a loose ponytail. Make a hole with your fingers right above your hair tie and flip your ponytail into the hole.
3. Pin Curls
They key to this look is medium-size hot rollers. After dividing your hair into sections and placing hot rollers let your hair cool fully (the cooling is what sets the curls in your hair). Then, take the rollers out and brush your hair lightly, careful not to let the curls separate too much. Lastly, add hairspray.
If you want, keep the pins in for a more vintage-looking vibe.
4. Edgy Updo
Sculpt hair with a sculpting product such as foaming wrap lotion and set the style with your dryer.
5. Braided Half-Updo
Tease the top of your hair. Wrap a section of your hair right above each side of your ear around to the back of your head and knot the two ends multiple times. Secure the knot with bobby pins. Then curl the remaining loose section of your hair and brush lightly. Spray with hairspray.
