Graphic: How did you first get involved with SGA?
Mimi Rothfus: Well I didn’t go abroad my sophomore year .… So I ran and I won. I didn’t really understand what SGA did at first because it’s a policy organization and I didn’t really know what that meant. So it basically took me all year to figure out what that meant. But then at the end of the year my friend Will ran for president but didn’t win. He asked me to be on his team. [I thought] “I would love to get another chance where I actually know what SGA does to do it again and be on E-board and serve.” So I ran for a post and won and got to be on E-board and had an amazing experience with it.
G: How do you feel about the upcoming year?
MR: The biggest thing that I want to change is that so many people that are in SGA are unhappy with it. We had some problems holding each other accountable this year problems with people not really taking themselves seriously. One of the things that we voted for in the amendments that passed … is all about making more detailed job descriptions for the senators and the class presidents so that they really know what they are getting into when they run so that they have drive and direction. Next year I would like to encourage and get the word out on what exactly SGA is before people run. And once they are in it really encourage them to do what they are supposed to be doing. Going out to their constituents finding out what people want and actually making the motions to do those and being responsible. When I ran [for president] my platform was responsibility and approachability which are two things that I think SGA needs the most because that’s how work gets done.
G: Any projects that you’re working on?
MR: Well this year there were a couple of things that I would like to continue next year some things with housing some things with the library. For example the library is about to be renovated. Hopefully soon we will be facilitating focus groups to find out what students want. I’m really excited about that. And also I’ve worked on some things with WaveNet because WaveNet does not really work. Hopefully we will be getting somewhere with that too. People that have been telling me things that they want changed. I’d rather not say those things right now because I don’t know exactly how I will be changing those things yet. But there are definitely things that I am looking into.
G: Anything else you would like to say?
MR: I’m really looking forward to represent my fellow student and hopefully increase the approachability and the responsibility of SGA to the maximum and for the maximum betterment of the students so that everyone can have a great year.
