With so many Pepperdine students burdened by loans and possibly credit card debt Kyle Shelley presented practical advice on how to avoid financial hardship at the College Capitalism Seminar on Nov. 4.
The lecture was hosted by SGA to help students learn ways to better their financial profile. It covered topics like establishing and building credit as well as understanding how to use money as a resource to achieve lifestyle and opportunity costs.
Shelley founder and president of All In Education approached students with the issue of financial pressure and the struggle young adults encounter as they strive to remain debt-free after graduation. At 23 years old Shelley began his own company that educates young adults about financial awareness.
Shelley argued that college students who are consumed in debt do not have the financial means to be able to live the lifestyle they want.
“By being able to understand the rules of the game of the credit card companies Shelley said, [students] will be able to pay for school without having to graduate with debt.”
Students who are able to understand and manage their credit score allows them “the resource and the ability to live the lifestyle or being able to take advantage of those life defining and changing moments as they come up Shelley said. It is the biggest asset we have and allows us to pay less for life.”
