The Pepperdine Student Programming Board hosted a free outdoor volleyball tournament on Saturday called “Sand Between Your Toes.” From athletic games to cultural events the Board organizes free weekend events on campus so that all students — with or without transportation — can attend.
Four separate co-ed teams registered for the tournament and were ready to spend their Saturday afternoon battling it out on the sand court outside DeBell Hall.
The first game pitted Team Shaka against Team Victorious Secret. Victorious Secret indeed lived up to its name but Shaka put in a valiant effort playing with two fewer players than its opponent.
In the second game Team Predator was unable to overcome a slow start and fell to Team Alien which moved onto the next round against Victorious Secret.
With the tournament title on the line Victorious Secret emerged well victorious and Alien won second place. In the final game of the tournament Team Shaka and Team Predator played one another claiming third and fourth place respectively.
During the tournament a few passing bystanders joined in the game. Although teams registered for “Sand Between Your Toes” online all Programming Board events are non-exclusive said Board member Luci Prosapio.
Freshman Darren Diggle a player for Team Shaka summed up the real purpose of the Student Programming Board activities:/* Style Definitions */table.MsoNormalTable{mso-style-name:”Table Normal”;mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0;mso-tstyle-colband-size:0;mso-style-noshow:yes;mso-style-priority:99;mso-style-qformat:yes;mso-style-parent:””;mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt;mso-para-margin-top:0in;mso-para-margin-right:0in;mso-para-margin-bottom:10.0pt;mso-para-margin-left:0in;line-height:115%;mso-pagination:widow-orphan;font-size:11.0pt;font-family:”Calibri_sans-serif”;mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri;mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:”Times New Roman”;mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri;mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;}”The events are really cool he said. They give people who don’t have a car something to do over the weekend.”
