Andrew W.K. is the king of partying. Infamous for his bloody nose, famous for his high-life attitude, beloved for his songs like, “Party Hard”, “We Want Fun”, and “Your Will Remember Tonight”, Andrew’s true will is to use all forms of entertainment to create feelings of pure, joy, fun, love, freedom, and possibility.
We we’re lucky enough to ask Andrew W.K. a few questions.
Esteban: Can you tell me a little bit about the “Party Rock” genre?
AWK: My personal mission, my goal, my life’s work is to not only to discover myself, but to discover what that self of my own is meant to do. And so far, and I could be wrong, but so far it is to “party” and that is a celebration of not being dead! Whether it’s Friday, your birthday, or the New Year or any other holiday or special occasion or any other remarkable event you want to take notice of. We’ll take notice of it as a general recognition that is, “Party Rock.”
Esteban: Your song “We Want Fun”, was featured in Jackass: The Movie. Have any of the cast members inspired you in anyway?
AWK: I was certainly influenced by my experiences with the primary members of Jackass. Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Chris Pontius, Ryan Dunn, and pretty much the rest of the cast. We did the feature song for the first movie. It was an amazing experience, very amazing, mind-blowing experience! My guitar Edward.Payne should be noted an influential figure for that song.
Esteban: Since you are the “King of Partying”, do you have a favorite place to party in LA?
AWK: Smoke House. Have you ever watched the Larry Sander’s Show?
Esteban: No, I have not.
AWK: There are so many stories to tell. Garry Shandling, I’m not crazy. Look him up.
Esteban: Yup, will do.
Esteban: You have a reputation for your dedication to your fans. Is it true you one time broke your foot on tour and continued the tour in a wheel chair?
AWK: Yes! I broke my foot at the House of Blues on Sunset Blvd! Do you know Phil Spector?
Esteban: The murderer with the afro?
AWK: Sure.
Esteban: Oh yeah.
AWK: That’s where Phil Spector and Lana Clarkson met. There, at the House of Blues. The House of Blues on Sunset!
Esteban: There are a few videos on YouTube of you on Fox News. Do you often troll Fox News?
AWK: Well I’m familiar with the term trolling, which is meant by “aggravating”, “joking”, “messing with”, and even “f-ing” with. The answers is no. I have been on Fox News and Fox for quite some time. I had already done the 20th anniversary special for the Simpsons. Of course, I’m going to go on, I’m going to wear the cloths, I’m going to say the lines, I’m going to make the face, etc.
Esteban: Did you enjoy being on Fox News, or were you there for comedic relief?
AWK: I’m working to further a cause that I feel strongly about, which is a celebration of the human race that seeks to redirect itself another way. We are working and striving for the same goal. The means justify the ends.
Esteban: You say we should “do our best to stay in the midst of the experience”, can you tell me some of your favorite writers or thinkers?
AWK: I have some works from some great thinkers, such as Deepak Chopra, Tony Robbins, Heidegger, Nietzsche, and Dr. Drew. He (Dr. Drew) provides a different approach to thinking about yourself. Kenneth Anger, Jack Parson, and L Ron Hubbard have also played been of some interest to me.
Esteban: Since you have been away from your more popular music for the past few years, what has made you comeback to restart the “I Get Wet” tour?
AWK: I have been inspired by my mission and goal in life, which is to bring the “party” to the people! We have the mother and the father and now we’re the child. We need to step up! We need to move on! We need to respond to the age of the crowned and conquering child!
