Lady on the Moon is back and eager to celebrate the start of a new year. The band, founded by juniors Alex Keating and Buchanan Westover, is looking forward to stepping up all aspects of its work within the coming year.
Separated by international borders for 12 months, the two reunite to perform at the Malibu Inn on Sunday, Sept. 1. Some major changes have been put into place since their last appearance there, including the official addition of two new band members, Sam Westover on bass and Jason Corpuz on piano. The two will be flying in for all Lady on the Moon events throughout the year.
Both Westover and Keating look forward to working side by side again, while recognizing their time spent apart was critical in allowing them to develop their individual styles and strengthen their unique talents.
“It was just a long break. I started writing a lot more, he [Buchanan] continued writing on his own. It was a time for us to focus on what we wanted to do and to improve individually,” Keating said.
As the two musicians come together again, there is no doubt the music will be stronger than ever.
“The hiatus just made us want to work even harder to accomplish our goals,” Keating said.
Since their creation in January 2012, the band has graduated from dorm-room performances to gigs in Malibu, Hollywood and Las Vegas, among other venues. With casual vibes, easy listening and great content, there is no disadvantage in taking the time to get to know these talented individuals.
Music plays an important role in Keating’s life.
“It allows me to express myself in ways that no other media can. I want Lady on the Moon to be able to reach people with our music and our passion. I hope one day that the world will be able to share in our passion for this music. That’s what it’s all about,” Keating said.
Members say that they want to land a major record label, while continuing to play bigger shows and expand their audience base even further. There is no doubt that Lady on the Moon is going forward with this summer’s momentum.
They invite everyone to their event this Sunday, Sept. 1 at the Malibu Inn. They will be performing original songs as well as featuring a cover of “Hey Ya!,” a favorite by OutKast. Keagan Riley and Karianne Larson will be opening for the concert. Doors open at 9 p.m. The event is for 18 and older, and tickets may be purchased at the door for $5. There will be no presales. T-shirts will also be available for $20 and can be discounted to $15 if students tag Lady on the Moon and promote the concert in Facebook statuses.
