All the latest fashion trends for back-to-school time

Ah…the joys of beginning yet another school year. New classes, new books, new commitments and, of course, a new wardrobe! As you propel yourself into the dizzying worlds of academics and extracurricular activities this fall, be careful not to lose sight of your personal sense of style.

Some may be overwhelmed by the sheer thought of planning a wardrobe around their bustling lifestyles. But they should realize that with a little know-how, it is easier than you think to transform this season’s hottest looks from the catwalk to collegiate cool for the classroom.

Wondering what will turn heads when making a grand entrance at Convocation? In a panic about which look will sweep through the Sandbar?

Look no further, girls … being stylish this semester is simpler than ever with the help of this quick guide highlighting this season’s trends:

Luck Be a Lady

Sweet ladylike details are all the rage. Look for dazzling elegant brooches, refined tweeds, tailored jackets, satin blouses, full circle skirts and vintage-inspired styles from the 1950s to overtake the fashion scene. Classy pencil skirts, lace detailing and pearls are tried-and-true basics for novices to this trend.

Make sure you pair these trendy items with classics such as jeans or sharp button down oxford shirts and chic footwear to keep the look hip and modern.

Wild Thing

Sophisticated fur stoles over a simple trench coat and a dash (I emphasize a dash) of leopard print will add instant drama to any plain outfit.  Keep things simple — going overboard is never a good thing!

Chic Cover-Ups

Ponchos in a variety of colors, textures and patterns keep you warm and still stylish when draped over the body. Look for ones that are proportionate to your body size.

Poncho trend not for you? Fret not. Cardigan sweaters are THE item of the season.  These sweet yet sassy sweaters heat things up when paired with eye-catching accessories and layered over ultra-feminine tanks or graphic tees.

Get the Blues

Denim jeans remain a trusty staple in the typical college wardrobe, so make sure you have a pair or two that fit well and can be paired with anything from your Pepperdine sweatshirt to a glamorous satin bustier top for weekends.

The latest craze is the “skinny jean.” This new trend is cut slimmer throughout the leg and ankle and offered in darker washes for a flattering fit.

Prep School

Discover your inner country club self and sport classic polo shirts, clean cut pleated skirts (plaid remains a consistent trend from season to season), streamlined trousers and smart sweater sets for a look that effortlessly appears polished and pulled together.

From tweed trousers to chic pointy toe flats, the styles of the season are smart, sophisticated and polished.  With the help of this style guide and just a tad bit of effort you will be on your way to receiving high marks both inside and outside of the classroom in no time!
