Spend a night on the town in style

I have actually been forgetting to eat — really. Oftentimes, we get so caught up with everything that we “have” to do that we forget to do the simple things that are essential for our very survival, like eating. Then there is the problem of what to eat and how to make it.

Instead of moping around your apartment or willing for things to just “appear” in your now-emptied refrigerator, go out to eat and make a night of it. Instead of avoiding people and making unfulfilled promises (like the “I’ll call you” lie), actually catch up with old friends and get to know your new ones. Put that one pair of comfortable shorts that you always wear in the dirty clothes hamper, and go actually look in your closet. Odds are, you’ll find numerous outfits that will make you look and feel better.

So here are just a few suggestions for scrumptious places right in here in Malibu, along with who to take with you and what to wear for the occasion

Taverna Tony offers authentic, homemade Greek food (I dare you to try the “flaming cheese”). With classes, homework, and a love life, we oftentimes forget to make time for our roomies. There is nothing like a warm Greek dinner to actually get to know them. Girls, dress up and wear embroidered, feminine skirts or eclectic dresses from places like Anthropologie, and, guys, wear a nice collared shirt from Banana Republic and a pair of cargo pants from J. Crew.

Coogies is an American dinner ideal for those rare times when you need real down time to just relax and unwind. So, treat yourself to a low-key lunch and people watch. Dress cute to make up for the fact that you are alone. Women, wear a pair of skinny jeans and a long tee from shops like Juicy Couture or French Connection. Even though these tops are stylish, they still have a relaxed feel to them. Men, just wear a pair of jeans and a band shirt (keep it simple, please).

Cholada literally looks like a forgotten little shack, but the Thai cuisine that they specialize in will make your mouth water (especially the spring rolls). Cholada is the ideal place for a comfortable, snug dinner with your significant other. This beachfront hut is not only romantic, but laid-back and cozy, too. Girlfriends, slip into something soft and warm, like a cotton J. Crew sweater with a denim skirt or a cute sweater-dress from Urban Outfitters or Juicy Couture, perhaps. Boyfriends, throw on a sweater or long-sleeved cotton shirt from places like Abercrombie and Fitch and a worn-in pair of jeans.

Geoffrey’s offers a wide array of steaks and seafood (the filet mignon will melt in your mouth). It is usually reserved for one of those rare milestone moments, like a birthday or an anniversary, so take the people that you love to this upscale beachfront restaurant. You can find a reason to celebrate anything with the gorgeous ocean views. This is definitely the place to look your best, so girls, put on an elegant black cameo or shift dress and some chic pumps to match. Boys, for once, wear a suit.

More of a hole-in-the-wall place than a restaurant, D’Amore’s is perfect for takeout. It’s game day and football fans get hungry — grab some buddies and pick up some fresh pizza before the big kick-off. Girls and guys, put on your favorite team’s jersey or tee, some faded jeans from Abercrombie and Fitch, perhaps, and a baseball hat (girls, how often do you get to wear one of those?).

Evidently, there is no excuse for you to make yet another disgusting, lonely dinner for just yourself. There is also no excuse for laying around in sweats for one more night. Air out your summer clothes for the hot weather , and bring out your favorite sweater for the cool night winds. With many places to experience and just as many occasions to celebrate, delicious food is a valuable component to the equation.
