Racquet Success

January 2, 2014 by Brianna Rhodes

The women’s tennis team opened strongly at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational this weekend in Midland, Texas.

The Waves began the tournament victorious in nine of the 11 matches.

Freshman Yuki Chiang began the round of 32 with a victory over No. 103-ranked junior Simona Parajova (Texas Christian). It marked her first win against a ranked opponent.

In the doubles competitions, sophomores Danielle Feneridis and Michaela Capannolo beat Texas State.

In day two, Texas Tech eliminated the duo.

Individually, junior Lorraine Guillermo reached the semifinals.

“I was feeling pretty good because I was just trying to enjoy the game and have fun,” Guillermo said.

Guillermo gained the upper hand in the third set with a 12-10 victory.

Next, the Waves travel to San Diego for the Fall Classic, Sept. 27-29.
