Pepperdine Fund seeks holiday donations

‘Tis the season to give! Along with the university’s fifth annual tree lighting ceremony tonight at 6 p.m., students will have the opportunity to practice the art of giving at the Deck the Halls event.

During Deck the Halls, the Pepperdine Fund invites the freshmen class to donate $1 or more. “At Deck the Halls they [freshmen] can bring their mug to our table, located on Upper Dorm Road, and receive some Pepperdine swag, a Christmas cookie and House Cup points,” wrote Kristina McClendon, coordinator of the Pepperdine Fund.

With their donation, students will be considered an “internal giver.” An increased number of internal givers helps to increase Pepperdine’s ranking and the value of students’ degrees, according to McClendon.

This event, along with the planned implementation of the Pepperdine Philanthropists Council in spring 2014, is part of an effort to reignite a passion for giving at Pepperdine – beginning with Seaver College. Although the event is aimed at freshmen, all students, no matter their year, are encouraged to donate.

“It’s not about how much [money], it’s about how many [people] give,” said senior Caelan Rottman, president and founder of the Pepperdine Philanthropists Council.
