Pay it forward, a dollar at a time

The Pepperdine Philanthropic Council encouraged students to donate to women’s basketball, water polo and men’s volleyball this past weekend at Blue and Orange Madness.

As part of the Pepperdine Fund, the Council works to educate the student body about giving back through donations. It takes $1 to be registered as a student-donor.

The group gives “unrestricted donations to the Dean’s Excellence Fund for the Seaver college, which is used for scholarships,” Council president senior Caelan Rottman said.

Their mission is based on Matthew 6:21: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.”

Students are already stakeholders in the university, and the council serves inform students about their effect on the campus community.

After deciding where to donate their dollar, the students were given the chance to play a game against a student-athlete. If the student donor won the game, they were entered into a raffle that included gifts worth more than $150.

The next event will take place on Dec. 3 at Deck the Halls.
