Fall Fashion: Flannels Can Add a Feminine Flair

November 30, 2014 by Kristin Vartan

They may look and feel like pajamas, but you just cannot stop wearing them. You can find them in your boyfriend’s (or guy friend’s) closet or your the thrift store.

They are… yes, you guessed it: Flannels.

I’ve been seeing these plaid button downs all over campus since the weather started to cool down. Even in Malibu, we just can’t help but trade in our tank tops for a cozy flannel. You can wear them fitted, or oversized; as a shirt, or tied around your waist. The possibilities are endless. These pieces are fashionable and functional.

Here are two different ways to style this item:

Beautiful n’ Boho

To make a blue flannel look more put together, pair it with a bohemian style dress! This plain orange-red one with slight button detailing adds a touch of femininity to the look, but still allows the flannel to be the main staple of the outfit. Accessories are everything for this outfit. My first model, Lauren Young, wore her rustic, earthy jewelry to complement the outfit. She completes the ensemble with Birkenstocks.

The Nature Nomad:

Here’s the perfect way to make grungy garb look girly. My second model, Carissa Mosley, wore a white lace dress under an oversized red flannel to add some feminine flair. Mosley crowned her beautiful mane with a flower headpiece and roughed up the entire outfit with some brown leather combat boots.

Keeping it Krischic,

Kristin Vartan
