Face in the crowd: Mike Miller

October 28, 2004 by Pepperdine Graphic

Mke Miller

There are a number of places to find junior Mike Miller during the week.
He attends University Ministries at Malibu Presbyterian on Tuesdays, spends time in the library and holds a Bible study with his roommates on Thursday nights called “Meat the Lord.”

“We grill, we have festival of the meats,” Miller said. “Then afterwards, we have some fun hanging out at the house, Treasure Island.”
Miller also attends the women’s soccer and volleyball games when they are home to cheer on two of his friends, Sophia Milo and “Steeps,” (Lisa Steepleton).

“I pride myself in my cheer ability,” Miller said. “I am really good at cheering for our team and against the other team.”
Miller is a business administration major who calls Phoenix his home but has lived in Portland, Chicago and Pennsylvania. Miller said the greatest thing he has gained since coming to Pepperdine is being immersed in the sense of community.

“It’s strengthened me as a Christian,” he said. “I know it’s a hokey Pepperdine answer. I never chose to (go to church), and now that I am here I am really strengthened by the community of people here. That’s Pepperdine’s main thing for me.”

What is something people remember most about you?
I’d say, if they’ve hung out with me long enough, it’s my laugh because I laugh like a little girl. So then they start laughing at my laugh and not at what I’m saying.

What do you miss most about home?
Arizona has a lot of reasonably priced places to eat that were close to my house and accessible. Most of my things are food because at home also mom would make food. You could eat other people’s food when you’re at home. When you’re at home everything’s fair game. I miss not being held accountable for how much I eat.

If you could eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If I could eat one thing the rest of my life? That’s tough. I really like food. Mexican. I could eat burritos for life. El champion burrito with no guac, extra sour cream and cholula hot sauce in every bite.

If you could be an animal, what would you be and why?
Hippopotamus. Hippopotamus is really cool because it’s pretty much the most dangerous animal in the world. I think it’d be really cool to be really tough, to lounge underwater, to blow bubbles and to be a permanent fixture in the Jungle Cruise. I like hippopotami because they live life on the edge. They grip it and they rip it.

If you could have three things on a deserted island, what would you have?
A scantily-clad supermodel, a hammock and a fresh water source because water is … after scantily-clad supermodels, water is my favorite thing in the world.

Anything you would like to add?
Go on thefacebook.com and look for Masta Fly Miller Flava, and then join the most exclusive club at Pepperdine … “Babes and Treasure Island.”
