Jessica Reimer

With a Chicago accent and an incredible drive to succeed, freshman Jessica Reimer followed her dream to become a musician to Pepperdine. Coming from a small city outside Chicago, her surroundings may have changed drastically when she moved to Los Angeles, but her aspirations remain the same.

Performing in the first coffeehouse of the year, Reimer intends to expand her experience and her exposure. She plans to audition for the University Ministries vocal group and Won by One. In October, Reimer also plans to audition for the popular reality show “American Idol.”

Reimer’s love for fine arts extends beyond the realm of music. She also loves to draw and paint.

Why did you choose Pepperdine?

I was looking for a Christian university and Pepperdine has a great location to go into the music industry.

What is your major?

I am majoring in music, specializing in vocal performance.

What are you favorite colors?

Pink and Green.

Do you sing in your free time?

I like to sing anytime and all the time. I sing everywhere from in the middle of convo to the shower.

What do you want to do after college?

I intend to continue my music and singing career.

Are you doing any auditions this semester?

As a music major you are required to audition for the musical and the opera. To gain more experience for myself, I am auditioning for “American Idol 4.”

Why did you choose “American Idol”?

Ever since I saw the first “American Idol,” I knew that I wanted to audition. I think the process will be a lot of fun, and it will be great practice.

How did you know that you wanted to be a singer?

When I was younger, I was singing before I could talk and it was probably then that I knew it was meant for me.

Do you write your own music?

I began writing my music in high school and continue to do so now.

Do you sing covers or only your own songs?

I sing versions of other songs, but it all depends on the type of performance. I recently began performing my own music.

What is your favorite music to sing?

I don’t like to define myself, any type of music is beautiful. But my favorite kinds to sing are Christian, punk and blues.

Do you play any instruments?

I have never taken lessons, but I have played the piano for seven years and guitar for two months.

Do you want to learn to play more instruments?

I would like to learn how to play the drums and the bass guitar.

What kind of music do you listen to?

I listen to all kinds, but lately I have been listening to more punk, emo, and alternative.

If you suddenly became stranded on an island with one other person, who would it be?

I would have to say Jesus because He would make me eternally happy.
