Face In The Crowd

Sarah Pederson

If junior Sarah Pederson could describe herself in one word, it would be “bright-eyed.”

Her randomness is evident in her choice of a major, which she just changed from religion to Spanish. She is thinking about adding English as a second major.

Although Pederson has various interests, she knows exactly what she wants to do with her life.

Her dream job is a type of missionary, with the main goal of “feeding people.” Pederson says she doesn’t care where her home is — she wants to live humbly and use all of her money to feed the needy.

Since she was little, Pederson’s mom encouraged her to visit senior citizens homes and volunteer with the church to help others, and she caught the bug.

Hailing from Newberg, Ore., this rain-loving character misses jumping in puddles. But Pepperdine was her “family school” (both her brother and sister went to Pepperdine), so she followed suit. The fact that Pepperdine was a Christian university also helped in her decision to be a Wave.

What is your favorite flower?

I like those flowers that are in between daisies and sunflowers. Purple and red ones. My mom used to get them for me when I was in plays. Now my boyfriend gets them for me because he doesn’t like roses. My dad used to get them for my mom too, because we couldn’t afford roses.

What is your favorite play?

“Cabaret.” The costumes are awesome and the ending is sad. I like musicals with sad endings because you don’t know where it is coming from.

What is the best place in the world?

Russia. I’ve never been there, but I love Russian literature and the symbolism. I’ve got Soviet love going on.

If you were an actress who would you be?

Milla Jovavich. She is the hottest, hottest, hottest damn lady on the face of the earth. But the person who is totally like me without a doubt is Diane Keaton from “Annie Hall.” You have absolutely no idea where she gets what she is talking about. She switches topics and there is no apparent connection between what she is saying.

What is your favorite dessert?

Anything with sugar. I am a sugar fiend. It’s one of the top reasons I am alive, I suppose.

If you could star in any movie what would it be?

“Interview with the Vampire.” It’s a great movie. Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise — hello. I would be the character Claudia.

If you were an animal what would you be?

I like rats. They are cute. I’d like to be a blonde rat with brown eyes.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Chocolate cookie dough, but I’m pleased with any chocolate. Fruit ice cream and other fruit sweets are for wimps.

If you were a color, what color would you be?

Dark purple, like my hair. Purple is a pleasing color. I also like intense black because it is dramatic and red is exciting because it is bright and loud. I am a mixture of all three.

What is the best Halloween costume you have ever had?

I was in third or fourth grade and I was a hooker, but my mom wouldn’t let me because we were going to a church party. So I put some extra stuff on my face to be a spider or something, but I still looked like a scary hooker.

What is your most embarrassing moment?

I was in the play “Annie.” It was a dress rehearsal and a bunch of us were sitting around in the back making fun of the director or someone, and my microphone was on. Someone came running in the back and told me to shut up.

I don’t get embarrassed easily unless I am doing something mean that I shouldn’t be doing.

What is the most important quality in a person?

Humility, loyalty and honesty.

Do you have these qualities?

I try. I think so.

What is your motto?

Look at every situation optimistically no matter what, then you will be happy.

If you were stuck in a pyramid, whose pyramid would you want it to be?

Cleopatra’s, because I could get her makeup and jack all of her clothes and jewels. I’d hang out with the super-hot tomb guards.

What is the most disgusting thing you have even eaten?

I don’t think I can say it in print, but a speakable thing – caiparenas. It’s a Brazilian alcoholic drink. Alcohol makes me want to die.

What is your favorite name?

Dulcenea, it’s Spanish. It means sweet girl. It’s from Don Quixote.

What is your favorite type of sneaker?

My boyfriend just got these rad Adidas. They are the normal three stripe, but the accent color is bright yellow and the sole is bright yellow too and it jets out and looks like a ski.

What is your best feature?

I like the color of my eyes. People tell me they are expressive and that they make me look like a cartoon.
