Etc.

For Pepperdine students, there’s a certain thrill and satisfaction to seeing celebrities, even from afar. However, nothing beats meeting one face to face. Adam Sandler, star of “The Wedding Singer” and “50 First Dates,” often plays basketball on campus. When senior Greg Mead jogged down Old Malibu Road to the beach one day last week, the last person he expected to see standing there was Sandler.

“I went up and introduced myself to him,” Mead said. Guessing that Mead is a Pepperdine student, Sandler said they should play basketball sometime on campus. For Mead, however, what beat meeting Sandler was seeing Britney Spears at Blockbuster, while he was there renting a movie with senior Karen Pomeroy.

“I was just going to Blockbuster and cruising through the DVDS,” Mead said. “One of my friends showed me a Britney Spears DVD. Next thing you know, she was right there. It was crazy. She walked right by me, holding hands with her fiance.”

Spears, who is engaged to dancer Kevin Federline, recently cancelled a U.S. tour due to a knee injury. Spears’ newest single, “My Prerogative,” is due out on radio and MTV this week, off of an LP set for a November release.

For other students, Britney sightings have involved a nifty remote-controlled car. Seniors Jen McMonigle, Morgana Wingard, Matt Wahlman, Carlos Mendez, Ryan Burch and Mike Pena were driving to Alumni Park to take photos when they drove past a woman playing with a remote-controlled car. It was Spears, along with her fiancŽ and sister, Jamie Lynn, star of “Zoey 101,” the Nickelodeon show being filmed on campus. Wahlman said he was so intrigued by the toy racer that he forgot to check Britney Spears out. “She’s an ordinary person. What is all this hype really?” said Wahlman.

Juniors Deborah Kim and Carlton Yoder were back on campus from driving to Sav-On one day when they spotted Pamela Anderson walking with another woman, both dressed in white workout attire.

“I saw her with Kid Rock freshman year,” Yoder said. “You could tell she had make-up on this time because she definitely looked a lot better. Last time I saw her, it was 7 in the morning, and Kid Rock was hung over in the car. She was driving, and they both looked like trash, literally.”
