Senior sights sexy, salsa singer at Latin Grammys

Behind the glitz and glamour of the Latin Grammys is the devout fan applauding and supporting the divas and heartthrob singers.

Senior Melani Bruce, a fan of Latin music, had the opportunity to cheer on her favorite music artists at the Latin Grammys two weeks ago.

When Bruce arrived, the ticket holder told her that her seat had changed and she was to find another seat, and she did. In the front row.

“As I was sitting, I look and noticed that I’m sitting right next to this cute guy who is sitting next to Carlos Santana,” Bruce said. “It turned out to be his son.”

In addition to the two Santanas, Bruce also sat next to Marc Anthony, while she saw artists such as Leah Remini from the “King of Queens” and ran into pop-stars such as ‘NSync’s Justin Timberlake, Cheech Marin and George Lopez.

“Let me tell you, Justin Timberlake is not that cute in person,” Bruce said. “But it was an awesome, awesome night.”

They say that experience is half the battle. And getting a foot in the door is the first step toward career success.

The skills and knowledge that college students gain from an internship is an integral experience in starting their career.

While many Pepperdine students would like to think they have a couple more years before starting a career, junior Tiffany Calhoun already has a job in the music industry. As an intern for FM Rocks, a music video and commercial production company, Calhoun   works for award-winning music video directors such as Dave Meyers.

“Since I love the music industry and plan to work in it after college (working for FM Rocks) is a great experience,” Calhoun said.

Calhoun is an advertising major acquired the job at the beginning of the year through her friend and Pepperdine alumna, Kathryn Burdett.

“I begged (Burdett) while we were on vacation in the Caribbean,” Calhoun said.  “I wanted to have a variety of both the real world, as well as school this semester.”

Had any wild and foolhardy adventures? Have an out-of-this world internship or job? Please tell us at graphic@pepperdine.edu
