Construction to cause long-term traffic issues on PCH

April 13, 2014 by Falon Opsahl

Two long-term construction projects on Pacific Coast Highway are going to begin a week from Tuesday, according to the Malibu Times. The construction could have a major impact on traffic in Malibu, Santa Monica and in between.

Beginning April 15, one southbound lane for a stretch of 900 feet will be closed for one year, from the Beach Club south of Chautauqua Boulevard to the Annenberg Community Beach House, in order to expand sewer capacity to handle polluted urban runoff during dry weather.

There will be roadwork Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m, Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m and no work on Sundays.

Moomat Ahiko Way in Santa Monica will undergo a brief repaving process beginning in early September to replace damaged concrete sections and curbs. During construction, motorists can access detour routes via the California Incline and the Lincoln Blvd. exit on the I-10 freeway.

The California Incline in Santa Monica will also close in late September or early October for one year to undergo stabilization work. Detour routes during construction will be Moomat Ahiko Way and the Lincoln Boulevard exit on the I-10 freeway, according to the Malibu Times.
