The Center for Communication and Business and the Seaver Academic Center on Pepperdine’s Malibu campus were evacuated around 4:15 p.m. today. Public Safety officers responded along with the Los Angeles County Fire Department to a “strong burning odor” detected from Cafe Fresca located on the second and third floors of the CCB, according to Ali Taghavi, Pepperdine’s director of communications.

DPS and the fire department were unable to locate the odor’s source after conducting a thorough check of the building. The university’s Facilities Services has been tasked with checking the area as a preliminary measure.

Faculty, staff and students were allowed to reenter the building at approximately 4:40 p.m.
