Last Thursday night, students flooded into Mullins Town Square as the Board hosted their third annual Monte Carlo Night. Upon arrival, students were given a raffle ticket for the giveaways later as well as a paper “$500 bill” which they could hand to a card dealer to cash in for chips so the games could begin.
There were a variety of casino games featured, including blackjack, craps, poker and Wheel of Fortune. It was no problem if one did not know how to play any of these games, as the dealers were there to teach the ins and outs. There were even things to do while students took a break from “gambling” or when you ran out of chips. There was a candy bar where students could fill up bags with a candy of their choice, a photo booth and mocktails.
“It’s a tense time, so why not come down, and get some food with friends?” Event Coordinator Ashton Cane said. The prizes ranged from a Fit Bit, Beats headphones, a Polaroid camera and more than $200 worth of gift cards.
Cane said it took about a month and a half of planning to make the night happen and went on to mention upcoming Board events for this semester.
“We have quite a few,” Cane said. “The Spring Concert is coming up. Underclassman club night is something we’re trying to start and would be coming up in April. Sophomore and freshmen can go to a club in Hollywood. All Pepperdine students, just having fun with their friends.”
Freshman Will Cargioli said he really didn’t have any expectations for the night. “When I passed by I saw all of the tables set up and thought it looked interesting. It was definitely fun. I would do it again. I had fun hanging out with my friends and ‘gambling.’ The only thing I would suggest is sending out an instruction guide on the games offered for easier game play.”
The night was a raging success as the plaza was packed from 6 p.m. until it ended at 8:30 p.m. Students are looking forward to Monte Carlo Night again next year.
