“Celiac was the tipping point,” said Casey Bechert, senior Integrated Marketing and Communication major at Pepperdine.
Diagnosed with Celiac disease at 13 following a viral illness, Bechert underwent multiple tests and diets before receiving the diagnosis which changed her perspective on health and autoimmunity. She said the condition left her more vulnerable to other illnesses but despite the hardships, Bechert actively practices hospitality in her many roles on campus — including serving as a Spiritual Life Cohort member and campus tour guide.
Throughout the many trials she has faced, Bechert encourages everyone to walk closely with the Lord and surrender fully to Him.
