10 SGA positions open in elections

September 11, 2003 by Pepperdine Graphic

The X-shaped movements of their classmates’ pencils will determine who spends the year organizing and serving their peers with the Student Government Association. The votes cast Wednesday and today will elect a freshman class president, six freshman senators, one sophomore senator and perhaps two senior senators.

However, at least one of the senior senator seats is open for write-in candidates. Only one person, Jason Hicks, signed up to run, and there are two available positions. Voting seniors are able to write any one of their classmates in for the position, and if 20 percent of the senior class (about 140 people) vote for the same person, then SGA will contact the senior and see if he or she is willing to accept the position. If the person is not willing, or 20 percent of the class doesn’t write in the same person, then according to SGA president Jason Palmer, a special election will be held for the second senior senator position.

Voting is open until 2 p.m. today. Ballots will be tallied by Michael Houston, student activities coordinator of the Student Activities Center beginning at 5 p.m. today.
