A group of friends initiated the Pepperdine Fashion Association (PFA) on Jan. 2. PFA marketed through club tabling and maintaining an active social media presence, said Caroline Dolce, co-founder and director of Operations.
Dolce always leaves her room dressed for an occasion, she said. She likes to dress appropriately for the weather as well as for an adventure.
“I have always been interested in fashion,” Dolce said.
Dolce said her family friends shaped her interest in fashion through their involvement in the fashion and modeling industry. She also has personal experience working in the fashion industry.
“I have done a few brand deals with fashion,” Dolce said. “For example, where they [brands] send me clothing, and by promoting their clothing on Instagram, they give me commission.”
Among her brand deals, Dolce said she enjoyed working with Edikted. She has also attended L.A. Fashion Week and assisted with photography and promotion.
Dolce admires brands that are stylish and expressive yet minimalistic, she said.
“My favorite fashion brand is NA-KD Fashion,” said Dolce. “They are European-based, and I really like their brand because they are very minimalistic. I find their pieces are very versatile to style with a variety of clothing articles.”
Dolce pays extra attention to her outfits and sees value in individual style, she said. She deeply admires how fashion allows people to freely express themselves.
“I feel it romanticizes every moment,” Dolce said.
Fashion has no limits and has a way of building connections, Dolce said.
“By experimenting with a variety of pieces, you can find what you most connect with and find your style in yourself and your surroundings,” Dolce said.
Dolce said she started PFA with her friends Katharina Grabinger, Luke Kim and Mason (Mason does not legally have a last name).
“We all began the fashion club together as, previously, there was not a fashion club on campus,” Dolce said. “We all had a similar interest, so that’s what inspired us to take initiative and begin this club.”
PFA also hosted a fashion show called ENIGMA on March 19. Each member of the club showed off their collection and pieces with the help of student models.
“They each have their own message,” Dolce said.
PFA also hosts meetings with guest speakers who are breaking through the fashion industry. Jessica Bazzi, founder and designer of the brand j.bazzi, spoke about the journey of starting her own brand Feb. 7.
