People of Pepperdine: Salina Perez

“I am president of Latino Student Association this year and I am also VP of Finance for Crossroads. I am an ally and advocate for all ethnicities, races, sexualities, and just anyone who are kind of the outliers because I do identify myself as an outlier. One of my goals is to mesh those communities because I know within the Latino community, many are Catholic, and sometimes with the Catholic faith comes kind of a prejudice or phobia of homosexuality or people that identify on the spectrum. So one of my goals is to be part of both eboards and trying to reconcile those groups. It’s not exclusive to be Christian and to be gay. Everyone has their definitions of Latino or people who are on the spectrum but blending those two and making experiences for people who have never met before, who identify a certain way, is important, especially for the campus.” – Salina Perez
