Face In The Crowd

It has been said that Los Angeles is the home of the stars. Then aspiring actress and senior creative writing major RosaLinda Diaz is in the right place. All signs pointed to fame for Diaz from day one. She was born in Santa Monica Hospital, the same place that Marilyn Monroe was taken before she died.

Diaz grew up in Silver Lake, Calif., the hometown of the first Disney

Studios. Diaz says she lived next door to the home that was the model for the seven dwarfs’ house and down the street from her was the model for Cinderella’s house and the wicked queen’s castle.

When she was 16 years old, Diaz moved to Hawaii. She says the best thing about living in Hawaii was being somewhere that so many people consider paradise. Now Diaz says she is living in another place that is often called paradise. She loves to surround herself by beautiful places.

Three years later, Diaz moved again and finished up high school at Columbine in Denver. When Diaz went back to Columbine for the first time after the shootings in 1998 she said that the environment was much more relaxed. As a matter of fact, her statistics and A.P. history teachers were playing ping pong in the halls.

Diaz says she has had the total college experience. She participated in the

London overseas program during the 1999-2000 academic year and was the Residential Advisor for Towers 6 last year. Diaz is currently teaching yoga classes for the Intramural Department and volunteering with the American Reads program.

This year Diaz lives in George Page Apartments. The most noticeable thing in her single room happens to be the Puerto Rican flag which covers the entrace to her door.

Diaz said that the highlight of her year was starring on the M.T.V. game show “Who Knows the Band,” which aired in October. Although Diaz lost the game in the final round, she did receive a karaoke machine as a consolation prize.

Diaz refers to herself as a diva, but can’t keep a straight face. She bursts out in laughter which ends in a little snort, a recent habit which she says she picked up after watching the movie “Miss Congeniality.”

Why did you choose Pepperdine?

My freshman year I saw a brochure at the career center in my high school and

I just decided that is where I wanted to go.

How did you get into yoga?

My mom has been doing it for as long as I can remember. I started my freshman year. Now I am teaching a few classes here at Pepperdine. It’s a good way to relax and become flexible.

If you were a Disney character who would you be?

The computer at California Adventure said I am most like Nala from “The Lion

King” because I’m adventurous, curious and assertive.

What’s your favorite color?

Green. When I was in preschool I would say “geen,” and I guess it jus stuck with me.

What vegetable do you hate the most?

It used to be broccoli, but now I’ll eat it if it has cheese on it.

What is your favorite movie?

“Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” I don’t know why. I’m sure it says something deep about my psychosis, but I’m not sure what.

How many kids do you want to have?

Six. I’m like an only child (I have a half brother). One day at the beach I saw a family with a massive amount of kids, and it looked fun.

Tell me about your brother.

Well, we get along better now that we are living in different states. He lives with my dad. He’s a few years younger than me. He’s a senior in highschool.

She-Ra or Wonder Woman?

I’d have to say She-Ra. I don’t remember her too well, but I know I had a She-Ra action figure. Plus She-Ra she has a better name.

Who is your favorite actress?

Lucille Ball. She’s a brilliant comedienne who was not afraid to stand up for what she believes in and make a fool of herself.

What’s your favorite book?

“To Kill a Mockingbird.” I first read it in the eighth grade.

If you were an animal what would you be?

A turtle because I love the water. I would say a dolphin, but I love to lay in the sun too and a dolphin can’t do that unless they want to die. Turtles are cute too.

What is your favorite Broadway play?

“Rent.” I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Do you prefer cats or dogs?

Dogs all the way. I want a brown and white spotted Great Dane with one brown eye and one blue eye. I’m going to name him “Rauss.” It’s German.

What are you doing for spring break?

Plans aren’t final yet, but my friends and I are hopefully going to take a trip somewhere. probably to New Jersey.

What’s a phrase that you say too much?

Rock star’s wife.

Are you a princess of a diva?

Definatley a diva. I can’t stand the term princess, but I am proud to call myself a diva.

How would your friends describe you?

They would say that I have my moments. I like to throw tantrums on the Underground in London. That’s why they call me a drama queen.
