9. Living Abroad (Germany): Hallo
Jill Amos our Germany blogger tells us more about her living abroad experience in Heidelberg. “I have officially fallen into the pages of a real-life fairytale. Maybe I am in Harry Potter’s wondrous town of Hogsmeade, am surrounded by the lush forest of Snow White’s tale, and am currently living in Rapunzel’s tower. Perhaps I’m Hansel’s Grettel (with the amount of fresh baked goods we have been consuming, I would be surprised if we weren’t leaving trails of breadcrumbs). Whatever spectacular world I might be in, I am certain that my choice to study in Heidelberg, Germany was the best decision I’ve ever made.” To read more, click here.
8. Huan ying nimen laidao Shanghai! (Welcome to Shanghai)
Kali Jelen, Shanghai blogger, shares her experience as she arrives in China. “When we first landed at Pudong airport in Shanghai I was struck by the greenery and beauty of the land. I had expected flashing lights and the gray scale of concrete to characterize the most populous city in the world, but instead I was greeted by a wonderland of green plants the bright colors of traditional architecture.” To read more click here.
7. Living Abroad (Lausanne): Au Revoir Mere!
Amber, Lausanne blogger, continues her journey to fulfill her Europe bucket list.
“Hey Mom!
I’m going on my first weekend backpacking trip…If you don’t hear from me by Tuesday morning, assume I’ve been taken and please send Liam Neeson to come save me.” – Xoxo, Amber
And that was all I told my mom before setting out on my first mini-euro trip alone. Don’t worry though, by alone I don’t technically mean alone – I brought 8 friends. By alone I mean the best kind of alone – as in no adult supervision. 😉 To read more, click here.
6. Greeks: buy your friends, sell your souls
Dear Grace,
Greek recruitment is so shallow. I believe it is a superficial tool of the devil that beguiles students into squandering money that might be better used if donated toward the Lord’s Kingdom. What are the most effective ways through which I might spread the word this rush week?
Sincerely,
Sophomore Prophet
Dear Sophomore Prophet,
While I don’t necessarily agree with your dramatic stance on the condemnation of all Greek Life participants, it is regardless an opinion held by a (very select) number of non-affiliated students here at Pepperdine. Thus, I will do my best to suggest creative ways in which you might singlehandedly bring down the system that you view as the source of your friendless, oppressed existence.

5. Living Abroad: Ahhh, Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires, fondly known as the Paris of South America, has been my home for a little more than one week. Now I’ve never been to Paris, but at this point in my South American journey, I am more willing to identify Paris as the Buenos Aires of Europe. Don’t judge me, I’ve fallen in love.
It’s been a whirlwind, this past week–saying goodbye to family, friends, my country. It still hasn’t totally hit that I am living in South America. But each day, there are little reminders that I am a guest, a extranjero, in this new world. To read more of our Buenos Aires’ blogger Connor Shewmake, click here.
4. Q;A: The Graphic sits down with alumnus Austin Chapman
Austin Chapman (2011) was born profoundly deaf, or “into a world of silence,” as he puts it. A year after graduating, Chapman, 23, installed a new pair of Phonak hearing aids for the first time.
“That night, a group of close friends jump-started my musical education by playing Mozart, Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Elvis and several other popular legends of music. Being able to hear the music for the first time ever was unreal,” Chapman wrote on his blog, artofthestory.com, in August.
Tracking his exposure through social media, Chapman’s narrative has given readers a new appreciation for music and its transcendent effect.
He solicited the help of online strangers on the social news site Reddit with the post, “I can hear music for the first time ever, what should I listen to?” To read more click here.

1. Gamers anticipate ‘2K13’
With the NBA season right around the corner, it is time to get in basketball mode. This also brings along the latest basketball video game rush, most notably 2K Sports “NBA 2K 13.” Heralded as the best basketball simulation ever by gameinformer.com and given 9.5 stars out of 10 by IGN, “NBA 2K12” was one of the most successful sports games of all time. However, fans are not content with just having the same game year after year. There have been calls for improvement and anticipation for what the 2K Sports team will do to make the game even better from last year’s. To read more, click here.
