More than a dozen students showed up to “The Nook” in the SAC on Wednesday for refreshments conversation and a chance to watch the movie “Whisky.”Though the event was open to all students in attendance were mainly Spanish majors minors and alumni along with Professors Marshall and Carlsen both members of the Spanish Department. Pepperdine’s Spanish Honor Society Sigma Delta Pi hosted the “Hispanic Film Night.”The Uruguayan dark comedy tells the story of two estranged brothers brought together by the death of their mother and the woman between them— who happens to be masquerading as one brother’s wife. Since its release in 2004 the “Whisky” has won more than 30 awards internationally and it was named an Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival.”The story just moves right along said 2009 alumna Keyla Vasconcellos. The way they shot it was really interesting. The camera never moved. The actors just moved within the shots.”Other students mirrored this enthusiasm for the film. During one scene several in the audience had audible reactions to the on-screen drama. Everyone in the room was focused intently on the action.
