Update 8:40 p.m. Northbound Pacific Coast Hwy at Topanga Canyon Rd has been closed and the flash flood warning has been extended to 9:00 p.m.
A flash flood warning for Malibu and nearby areas is in effect until 7:45 p.m. according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service website states “This rain will produce significant flash flooding and flooding of roadways in western Los Angeles County including … Pacific Coast Highway from Malibu to Pacific Palisades…Rockslides and mudslides are likely to affect Pacific Coast Highway and canyon roads through the Santa Monica Mountains.”
The heavy rain that started Sunday morning is forecasted to continue on into Monday. A nighttime thunderstorm is also possible and wind gusts could be as high as 55 miles per hour.
Malibu and surrounding area residents are advised to stay indoors.
