The distinct flair of the controversial British graffiti artist known only as Banksy can currently be spotted close to home. A tank on Pacific Coast Highway between Temescal Canyon and Chatauqua Boulevard in the Pacific Palisades reads “This looks a bit like an elephant.”
Notorious for managing to paint five pieces on Israel’s West Bank Barrier in 2005 Banksy is known for making provocative social and political statements in his art. Several pieces have popped up in Los Angeles of late posing the question of whether he is in town for the Academy Awards where his documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop” is nominated.
The film was?screened at Pepperdine’s ReelStories FilmFest in January. Contrary to earlier reports the Academy of Arts and Sciences welcomes him though they say his penchant for disguise “presents certain problems.”
